Spring Cleaning Tips

Although all aspects of your house will benefit from spring cleaning the most popular spring cleaning tips are included in this article.

As the name suggests spring cleaning historically occurs in the spring when the weather has started to warm up it’s the time of the year to thoroughly clean your house from top to bottom and all rooms in between!

If you start by de-cluttering all of the rooms this will give you the motivation to begin doing some thorough cleaning without constantly tripping over things!

Spring cleaning includes opening windows and letting fresh air into your home; cleaning the windows and drapes or blinds should also be undertaken. If your drapes require dry cleaning take them to the cleaners at the start, than by the time you have finished spring cleaning the room they will be ready to collect and re-hang.

Some people chose the opportunity of spring cleaning to store all their winter clothes and bring out their spring/summer wardrobe. Make sure all winter clothes are clean and do up all zippers and buttons prior to storing to help them retain their shape. Fold them neatly and add some moth repellent such as lavender sachets or cedar wood balls.

There are many products on the market which will help your spring cleaning easier. Economy should be considered when spring cleaning, there are many products which include degreasers, deodorizers and will clean all surface types; these are worth using along with some hot soapy water and your elbow power!

Another tip is to clean the carpets or floors thoroughly during your spring cleaning. If you have carpets then it may be advisable to use a professional cleaner, either someone who will come to your house or hire a machine. Both of these ways will remove trapped dirt, debris and stains.

The warm weather will give them the chance to dry properly. In the past carpets and rugs would be taken outside in the sunshine hung up and beaten with a stick or carpet beater, you may like to get the kids involved doing this with your rugs!

Other good spring cleaning tips; are to check over appliances to make sure they are working properly, especially if you are moving them to clean behind, under and the sides, take the opportunity to look for any signs of cable wear and damage. Remove dust from the coils of the refrigerator by gently hovering and remove lint from tumble dryer vents and tubing the same way.

If your decluttering session ends with a pile of junk you’re not quite sure what to do with, there are companies like this Toronto junk removal service that are dedicated to hauling your old trash to wherever it can go – a recycling center, the dump, or, when possible, a charity.
